Objective To learn how to use educational attainment data to study long term historical trends in improving educational attainment.

Exercise 1 Construct a series of time plots of the Myanmar educational attainment data provided (go beyond the plots shown in the presentation); comment on what they teach about educational attainment in Myanmar and about the eduational attainment data in Myanmar; create a PowerPoint presentation based on these results. Alternative: Same exercise for another country of your choice.

Exercise 2 List and discuss the likely value of as many innovative census products based on educational attainment data as you can think of. For example, tabulations at different geographical levels or for various population subgroups, tabulations showing literacy in relation to other characteristics, special reports or presentations on the use of literacy data.
