Workshop Environment Computer Equipment Each participant will be provided with a IBM compatible PC with the following minimum specifications:
There will be one laserjet black and white only printer and one inkjet black and white or color printer for workshop use.
- 133 Mhz Pentium processor
- 16 Mb ram
- 500 Mb hard disk
- SVGA monitor
- Mouse
We will have intermittant use of an LCD panel/LCD projector. Unfortunately, we cannot have continuous use. We have available only three projection units, one LCD panel and two LCD projectors, for the four Summer Seminar workshops. The LCD panel and one of the LCD projectors belong to the Program on Population. The second LCD projector belongs to the Population Reference Bureau and is for the exclusive use of Workshop 3. These units are still very expensive, and the Summer Seminar is the only time the Program on Population has any use for more than one unit.
We will have occassional use of the PaperPort Vx Scanner, the Hewlett-Packard flatbed scanner, the Zip drive, and the CD-R drive in Room 2031/2034. These units are not heavily used, so they should be available to us most of the time, albeit at the inconvenience of having to move to another room.
Operating System and Software Each computer will be loaded with the following:
Other software will be downloaded from the Internet and installed as the workshop proceeds, including
- Windows 95 (O/S)
- Office 95 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Netscape Navigator 4.x
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.01
- ArcView 3.0a with Spatial Analyst 1.1, Network Analyst 1.0a, and 3D Analyst 1.0
