Adult Mortality and
AIDS Deaths in Zimbabwe
Updated 1999-11-26
I am just completing a study of adult mortality and AIDS deaths in Zimbabwe for UNAIDS, work that grew out of a review of adult mortality estimation procedures. Zimbabwe is an important test case for two main reasons. Estimated prevalence of HIV/AIDS is very high, and data are available for nearly all existing indirect methods of estimating adult mortality.
A brief, preliminary writeup is available in the form of a paper prepared for the UNAIDS Reference Group meeting held in Geneva this past June, Adult Mortality and AIDS Deaths in Zimbabwe (Text File). The file zimbabwe.zip is a zip archive containing an Excel 97 file that includes several plots to accompany the text.
The current draft version of the paper is available as a Word 97 file here. If you have trouble downloading it, try this zip archive. I would provide a PDF version, but it seems a bug in Acrobat doesn't properly caputure diamond shaped plotting points, which renders my plots unreadable. The gory details are available here in the form of a 443kb zip archive of linked Excel 97 files.
